TSPE Travis Chapter Day at the Capitol – March 11 at 11:30
Come join the Travis Chapter of TSPE for an interactive visit to the Capitol. We will convene in a meeting room at the Capitol where Dr. Jennifer McEwan, PhD, TSPE’s Legislative and Governmental Affairs Director, will walk us through a day at the Capitol. Dr. McEwan will give a legislative update on what issues are hot this session and what TSPE is doing to track the issues and protect our profession. In addition, Dr. McEwan will walk us through the bill-making process and share with us her deep understanding of the steps a bill takes from the legislator’s office to the Governor’s desk. After this overview and opportunity for questions, Dr. McEwan will lead us to the House and Senate Chambers where we will see our legislators in action. We will get a play-by-play summary of the action and leave with a better understanding of how our State government works, what TSPE is doing to protect our ability to practice engineering, and how we can be a part of the grass-roots effort to advocate for our profession.
The meeting will convene at 11:30 am (please allow 15-20 minutes to park, get through security, and find the room). The room number and parking information will follow. Please note that lunch will be on your own in the Capitol cafeteria after the chamber visits (so you might want to have a late morning snack!).
